WebFPV. Chapter 1: Fly decent.
This book draws its pages with JavaScript. With it off, here are the words.
Mat. andAgainFPV. A pilot since 2020.
It started as curiosity. Could I compile Betaflight and put it in a virtual world, in a browser, and fly decent?
Betaflight 4.5.1, compiled to WebAssembly. The PID loop runs at 1 kHz. Yes. 11 August 2026.
Soon as I realised the answer was yes, I decided to see how far we could go. It was then a project.
First it was for me. I wanted a sim that was super easy to fly in. For my kids, and for me.
Then I realised that most school kids have no money, and usually can't install stuff on their computers, so they have no sim to fly in. Then I wanted it to be accessible for all the people that could not buy a VelociDrone, or what not.
The part I'm proudest of is the map and track building system. So people could create their own game.
What nearly made me quit was trying to understand the feel difference between real life whoops and the sim. It's different. But how?
The testers found bugs and gave feedback on the flight feel, in a chat channel: Asylum, Jannes, LeStar and CrapShack. That helped me direct my development effort.
If it feels like a real quad, the rest is easy.
The game will keep building.
